The game itself has cartoon styled graphics and the controls are very simple and easy to understand. Players control their cowboy by pressing the left arrow to go back (and towards the start), or the right arrow to move further into the level.

To attack the aliens you can either use an axe while they are in melee range to both damage the aliens and knock them back, this helps lower the amount of damage you can take, you can also use a gun to shoot the aliens from a distance, although you do start off with quite a limited amount of ammo (75 bullets). You can increase the amount of bullets you have by entering one of the buildings by double taping the doors, after a few seconds you will receive some extra ammo.

The game can easily be paused in the top left corner, and you can even close the game and come back it later to continue from where you left off.
