BulkyPix.AMA release two new games on Android: Pix'n Love Rush and Burn it All

Another Android game developer has released multiple titles today. BulkyPix.AMA has released two new unique games onto the Google Play store called Pix'n Love Rush which is full of retro goodness and Burn it All which is a sort of action puzzle game.

Pix'n Love Rush is a new retro style action platformer for retro game fans out there. In this game you will be controlling Pixel Cat, running through each level as fast as you can while trying to collect all the bonuses. You will be running and jumping just like you would be in any other platformer from back in the day, dodging obstacles in your quest to get through each stage.
There are two modes you can play, one of which is geared towards a quick burst of game playing for when you are on a lunch break at work or only have a few minutes to play. This mode is limited to a 5 minute play session. The other gameplay mode is an infinite level mode where, if you have the reflexes and plenty of time to play, never ends. On top of that there is also four different difficulty settings to select from.

If you are feeling like getting a little puzzle action in instead then you might want to check out BulkyPix.AMA's other title called Burn it All. In this game you will be trying to get three little flames out of the center of the Earth and back to their father which happens to be the Sun. You will have to burn your way through barriers, blow things up, deal with underground monsters and avoid water / gas while trying to escape.

Burn it All Features:

- 3 little flames, each one with its own set of skills.
- Intuitive gameplay and completely addictive.
- Progressive and challenging difficulty.
- 5 worlds to unlock with 25 levels each
- Statistics and different achievements to unlock
- Unique graphics.

Burn it All has plenty of levels you will have to blaze your way through as well, totaling 125 to be exact. Each flame also has their own set of abilities you will have to utilize if you plan on being successful in completing the game.

Both Burn it All and Pix'n Love Rush feature some unique visuals and gameplay with the ability to play in both long and short bursts. You can pick up Pix'n Love Rush off of the Google Play store for $1.99 while Burn it All will set you back $0.99

Android Developers Can't Get Paid And It's Killing The Platform

A version of this note appeared last week on Business Insider Intelligence, BI's market research service on the internet industry. If you were a subscriber, you'd already know this! Click here to find out more and sign up for a free trial →

Android has a monetization problem. According to a report from Flurry, for every dollar of iOS revenue, developers only get 24 cents from Android.

Recently, we spoke with Peter Farago, VP of Marketing at Flurry, to get his thoughts on the mobile platform wars. Flurry is a mobile analytics company and so has a pretty good vantage point on trends and developments in the app ecosystem.

Farago laid out three reasons for us that he thinks are behind Android's monetization gap:

Payments are not seamless on Android. Google Wallet, a new mobile payments system, was supposed to help solve this problem. However, as Farago told us, "Google Wallet has limited penetration, there is commerce friction." Compare this to other platforms. With iOS, you can link your phone to your iTunes account and download an app with one click.  Farago also cited Kindle Fire as another example. When a consumer fires up their brand-new Kindle Fire, they have to put a credit card down for the Kindle store, or else they can't use the device.
"They don't have a curated store." This is Farago's personal hypothesis. As a result of the platform's nature, Android has a less efficient app distribution model than iOS. Farago thinks consumers have been burned more on Android, or, as he put it, "There's a lot of garbage on the shelf."
"The consumer on Android is less willing to pay, there is more of an expectation that they get free stuff." Farago tells us this is a lot of developers' hypothesis. However, he believes it is often a self-fulfilling prophecy; developers choose to release a free, ad-supported Android app. He pointed to Rovio's Angry Birds Space, one of the most popular games of all time, as an example. Rovio only released a premium version on iOS. However, they created a free version, in addition to a premium one, for Android.
Farago also believes that Google will have a hard time fixing the problem, it goes against the company's DNA. Google wants to create highly scalable, frictionless systems. Consequently, it's the "anti-customer service company;" search engines don't have help lines. Apple and Amazon, on the other hand, have customer and retail in their DNA, it is a critical aspect of their user experience.

Furthermore, Farago told us, "It's against their culture, but it's also against their business model." Google wants to drive ad revenue, they are not as worried about the store. Their primary concern is expanding their ad inventory.

Closing Android's monetization gap, therefore, is not only a cultural challenge, but an inherent issue with the platform's business model.

We go deep in the weeds of this topic in our special report on the mobile platform wars.

NimbleBit flies the flag for Mobage's social clout as Android version of Pocket Planes announced

Given that Tiny Tower was released on Mobage, it's no great surprise the Android version of NimbleBit's next game is also coming to DeNA's platform.

Pocket Planes takes the concept of moving your bitizens around a tower to the next level as you have to shuttle them around the world in planes, building up your small town airport to a international travel hub.

No doubt, it will be a great success, although given that Tiny Tower has now done over 13.5 million downloads (of which between 1 and 5 million were on Android), it's up against some stiff internal competition.

Fly by

Still, the signs look good given that the art style is the same, as is the attention to detail.

There will be 250 cities, and dozens of types of planes you can customise. Of course, the bitizens also get their share of action as you can tweak them, even down to the level of what the pilots wear.

And neatly making the most of Mobage, you'll also be able to trade plane parts with your friends, which sounds rather like the mechanic NimbleBit first honed its in Pocket Frogs game.

Incidentally, its Android version was powered by Plus+, ngmoco's a pre-acquisition social platform.

As for how the social elements in the iOS version will work, NimbleBit isn't saying. We assume Game Center.

Pocket Planes is due for a summer release on iOS and Android.

Gamevil's 3D DotA style game Plant Wars will be coming to Android soon

Gamevil just pushed out an update for their 3D DotA style game on iOS called Plant Wars. Being that a lot of people, including myself, love DotA style games, we figured we would ask our friends at Gamevil if Plants Wars would be coming to Android anytime soon.

Well the good news is that yes, it will be coming to Android and a lot sooner than you might think. For those of you unfamiliar with Plant Wars, in this game you control your hero who goes by the name of Leafy, along with some of his friends, in order to protect your forest from the invading beasts. Each level presents you with swarms of enemies which you have to defeat, eventually destroying their base before moving on to the next level.

Plant Wars also comes with three difficulties as well: Normal, Hard, and Hell modes. Currently Plant Wars is slated for release sometime in May 2012 if all goes well with the last minute developing and testing. It could be a bit longer. When it does get released onto Android, it will most likely be available for download for free.

Zynga launches ZombieSmash! for Android

Zynga game ZombieSmash! is now available for Android. This game has already been available in the iOS App Store, with the last update being on the 10th of August last year and the game is already on version 2.1. However, the game has finally come to Android and is available in Google Play for Rs. 52.13. According to a blog post by Zynga, "The game offers sophisticated ragdoll physics combined with the propriety SplatterEngine to create cartoon blood and gore that is both adorable and cathartic -- all at the same time". ZombieSmash! is a defense game where users have to flick and smash zombies until they're dead. Technically, zombies are already dead but the idea is to have them obliterated.

To keep the fight against zombies interesting, Zynga has added access to over 30 upgrades and special weapons which include asteroids, wrecking balls, liquid nitrogen and gigantic rolling boulders, which can either be used individually or in combination. ZombieSmash! will be available in eight languages and will feature four gameplay modes. There is Campaign mode where players are challenged to survive for 31 days against the mounting zombie threat and 30 nights in the Camp Nowhere Campaign. There is the Endless Seige mode where players are confronted with a never ending zombie assault. They need to hold out as long as possible. There is the Sandbox Mode where users have all the tools they need to defeat the zombies without any worry of peril and finally, there is Bonus Nights, where users destroy zombies in new ways. This special mode can be unlocked through extended gameplay, and by using your brains.

ZombieSmash! for Android comes bundled with live wallpaper and is also optimized for Android based tablets. In the spirit of ZombieSmash! coming to Android, Zynga's also made a video (see below) of a timelapse where the Android mascot slowly turns into a zombie.

For more zombie fun on your Android device, watch out for Zombies, Run! which should be out sometime this year. The app, which is already available for iOS helps you with your interval training while you run by making you think that there are zombies chasing you. The app contains 13 missions to get runners running more and contain seperate programs for beginner runners as well as more seasoned runners. In the meantime, enjoy smashing zombies with Zynga on your Android.

Garfield game arrives on Android FREE

Garfield, the lasagna loving Odie kicking cat has arrived on Android in his first official game called Garfield Defense: Attack of the Food Invaders. As you may have guessed from the name, this is a defense style game blending elements of tower defense and siege warfare gaming into one title.

Aliens, who happen to look like weird meatballs, have invaded Jon Arbuckles house right before snack time demanding all the food in the house. They won't eat the food though but instead build deadly fighting machines out of it which they will use to take over the world. All the Garfield characters are in the game as well to help out in defending your food.

Garfield Defense Features:

- The most popular lazy cat in the world in an epic new adventure
- Fusion of tower defense and siege styles with non-stop action
- Awesome Garfield art
- Unique gameplay that captures the wackiness of the original Garfield series
- Convince Garfield's friends to join your army by bribing them with popcorn
- Upgrade your army and improve your defenses using cookies that you find around Jon's house
- 60 challenging levels to conquer
- Authorized by Garfield creator Jim Davis and Paws, Inc.

Some of these franchises that have been around for a long time like Garfield and The Peanuts are very particular when it comes to adding new items to their franchises. This is, however, an official Jim Davis / Paws Inc game and a pretty fun one at that. Of course you have upgrades and different 'weapons' at your disposal as well to fend off the evil alien meatballs.

Fans of Garfield will want to grab this game but even if you are not a fan of the fat orange cat, it is a pretty well made defense game. If you have access to the Amazon App Store then you can download Garfield Defense: Attack of the Food Invaders for free.

Gamevil gets a little more retro with their new RPG for Android called Immortal Dusk

Gamevil seems to be pushing forward on Android with yet another RPG being released today called Immortal Dusk. Having released their party-based RPG called just the other day called Advena, it is highly unusual that Gamevil would release another title so quickly, not that we are complaining of course.

In typical RPG fashion, you will be playing as a hero who is destined to save the world from complete destruction. This time around though, Immortal Dusk features some more retro style graphics then you usually find in their games. Granted most of their games do have a retro style to them, Immortal Dusk just has it a bit more.

Immortal Dusk Features:

- DYNAMIC ACTION FANTASY: Immerse yourself in non-stop fantasy action as endless challenges await
- UNFORGETTABLE ADVENTURE: Delve into a high stimulating storyline and side quests that twist and turn as the mysteries of a secret world unfold
- LEVEL 99 IS MORE THAN JUST A NUMBER: Unending challenges, leveling up options and weapons customizations will leave you playing for hours
- VISCERAL GAME PLAY: Immersive retro game play in an apocalyptic world delivers raw joy with every blow
- RPG ACTION LIVES ON: Relive what traditional RPG feels like through skill building against monsters and enemies in this fantasy world

Immortal Dusk is very much the tradition RPG that you may have played back in the day on earlier console systems which is a good thing as RPGs back then were some of the best. Fans of Gamevil titles know they can expect some humor to be blended in there as well but there are no multiplayer features in this new title.

If you haven't had enough RPG news today just yet and are not currently busy with either Iruna Online or Dark Legends that came out today, you can nab Immortal Dusk off of the Google Play store for free.

Asobimo unleashes their second English 3D MMORPG onto Android called Celes Arca

DOWNLOAD (GOOGLE PLAY)

Last week saw Japanese game development studio Asobimo release their first English localized game which happens to be an MMORPG called Iruna Online. Well following that, this week we are treated to yet another Asobimo game translated over to English which is another MMORPG called Celes Arca.

One of the unique features about Celes Arca is the ridiculous amount of customization you can do to your character when creating it when first starting out in the game. According the Asobimo, there is over 10 trillion different combinations between your avatar and equipments to sift through. As with their last game, Celes Arca is a full 3D MMORPG for mobile which was just localized for the English market and released onto Google Play.

Celes Arca Features:

- Over 10 trillion dress patterns: Build your one and only character with combinations of various avatars and equipments and go out to an adventure. The combinations are over 10 trillion!
- Find your own style: An job change will occur as you advance on your adventure, you can develop your character to various jobs such as Fighter type, Gunner type, and Mage type.
- Many elements to play such as raising pets: In Online RPG Celes Arca, there are many elements to play, like going out to an adventure with the pet you raised, or solving peoples issues by accepting quests.
- The story of Online RPG Celes Arca: Mysterious rocks and buildings that where fallen down form the sky in the ancient times. You have volunteered in the group of knights called Templum knight, to go on a adventure and discover the hidden side of the world.
- An command type battle with an encounter system: An simple game system with a general command type battle is used so people who have never played an Online RPG (MMORPG) can easily enjoy the game.
- General game play is free: All functions are playable in the free course. Monthly subscription courses feature privileges such as monthly in game coin additions, 30% off on the items in shops, and many more.

The features list above does dip into the background story for Celes Arca which goes along the lines of rocks and building are falling down from the sky. You volunteer and group up with other knights to figure out what is going on and why it is happening. Battles seems to be more geared around the retro style of RPGs with a random encounter system and command-based battles. Sort of like what you would have done in Final Fantasy VII.

Celes Arca is a free to play game with all of the game being accessible without having to drop any cash. However, Asobimo does offer a monthly subscription service for Celes Arca should you want to enjoy a few perks in-game such as discounts at shops, extra cash earned and more. It is an interesting business model considering it is completely optional and you can go ahead and just play the entire game for free if you want to. With that said, Celes Arca is available for download off of the Google Play store and through our Google Play synced catalog.

It looks like Frontier Gunner could very well end up coming to the English market in the future if this trend continues.

Mysteryville 2 for Android is an Addictive Adventure

Laura Winner is an adventurous and inquisitive journalist who we follow in her investigation of her friend, Bill Witowsky, and his strange disappearance. Laura explores the town from her familiar hotel through 22 chapters with puzzling games each step of the way.

As we work our way through the game we hunt for objects, spot the difference and decipher anagrams all at a race against the clock to gather clues to solve the mystery.

Items are very well hidden in the scenes and provide a challenge to all ages, i have to admit i had to use the ‘hint’ button a few times to help out.

Nevosoft have spared no effort in the amazing and detailed graphics for Mysteryville 2. The attention to detail, the crisp edges even when zooming in and the vibrant colors makes this a pleasure just to play.

Each scene was carefully planned and crafted to give the user an incredible visual experience and make for a challenging level to find those well hidden objects.

After you unlock you’re first Achievement you’ll be addicted, hours after playing this game and searching every in and out of the levels you will be wanting more. Luckily there is an in-app purchase with an additional 50 levels over 17 chapters for a small fee of $2.99US.

Mysteryville 2 is a fun addictive game which you wont be able to put down. Gameplay is very good and easy to follow with an excellent storyline – slightly annoying that when you are trying to zoom in and out on a level it will pick it up as a click but nonetheless a small problem with a great game.

Mysterville 2 is compatible with most android devices, check Google Play for exact compatibility.

Upcoming Action/Arcade game Monster of Puppets invading Android at the end of April

A new 3D action-arcade game is heading our way sometime at the end of this month (April) called Monster of Puppets which is being published by NuOxygen. Originally developed by Drakkar Dev, Monster of Puppets will be a rather dark tap & slash type of game for Android.

In this game you will be using a slew of different weapons to slash and shoot monster puppets that fly across your screen. While similar to games like Fruit Ninja, the difference is you can lose if you take too many hits as the monster puppets will actually attack you. While there are all types of puppets, there are also boss puppets as well which take a bit more strategy and skill to defeat.

- Lovely Opponents: cute and expressive 3D characters will make you smile
- Fun for Everyone: simple and well known game mechanics allow everyone to have fun from the very first levels
- Stunning Arsenal: a wide expandable set of weapons and abilities will help in your mission.
- Updates: Frequent updates will add new contents and challenges
- Social Features: Share and compare your results with friends

Monster of Puppets does look like it could be a lot of fun, especially if you enjoy games like Fruit Ninja but happen to be looking for a little more challenge since, as the developers love to mention, fruit doesn't slash back at you.No word just yet on pricing but we do know that Monster of Puppets will be available by the end of this month. Check out the gameplay trailer above to see the game in action.

Samsung Galaxy SIII to be 'official Olympics phone'

Samsung's new Galaxy device is to be unveiled in London because it is to be the official phone of the Olympics, according to reports.

Although Samsung has refused to officially confirm whether the announcement relates to a much anticipated forthcoming phone or to a range of new devices, the launch at London's Earl's Court will, nonetheless, be the closest Google's Android operating system comes to an event on the scale of an Apple launch.

Any phone related to the Olympics would be expected to include the facility for contactless payment as the Games are also sponsored by Visa; the two companies announced a partnership in April last year, and Samsung has already confirmed that it will make an Olympics-themed phone. Online reporting suggests that the Galaxy SIII will be that device, and that it will also include a number of colours and a ceramic body.

The expectation is that the evening event on May 3 will at least include the successor to the popular SII phone, although the name has not been confirmed, but that it could also include a range of other products that build on the success of popular Samsung devices such as the Galaxy Note.

Unconfirmed rumours include a slight increase to the screen size of the product, enlarging the SII's 4.3-inch screen to 4.6-inch and using HD in 1080p. Such an increase could be due to an "edgeless" design, rather than to an enlarged overall device. An improved camera, possibly up to 16 megapixels, is also a possibility, and wireless charging has also been mentioned as a possibility.

The invitation for the event reads simply "Come and meet the next Galaxy", and gives details of the location of the next "Samsung Unpacked" event, said The Daily Telegraph.

Samsung has not, however, hosted a recent Samsung Unpacked event recently at which it has unveiled a single product.

Samsung's Galaxy range however also includes the popular miniature tablet, the Galaxy Note, which includes a stylus and handwriting recognition, as well as two 'Tab' models, that use either 7-inch or 10.1-inch form factors in a bid to produce and Android rival to the iPad.

A number of 'leaks' of the Samsung Galaxy SIII phone have already emerged online, but none of these devices, which are usually slim and tapered, has been confirmed as genuine.

Specifications for the new mobile phone's processor remain unclear as well; many manufacturers are now producing "quad core devices", using improved processors that provide improved performance but have been criticised in some instances, such as the HTC One X, for compromising battery life. If Samsung's new devices are not keeping pace with their rivals, however, the manufacturer is likely to face criticism.

The Samsung Galaxy SII has been the most popular Android handset by search terms for approximately six months, and a successor had been expected to launch at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier in the year.

The SII was released in April 2011, and is still in the process of being upgraded by mobile operators to the latest version of Android. Any new version is expected to run Ice Cream Sandwich, Google's codename for the software.

India’s $35 Aakash tablet to get hardware upgrade as well as Android 4.0

35$ in India will soon get you a tablet sporting Android 4.0 and a dual-core Arm Cortex-A9 processor thanks to Datawind's Aakash.

India’s much-touted Aakash device is getting an upgrade – Ice Cream Sandwhich is coming to the $35 Android tablet along with some hardware improvements.

UK-based Datawind is the company responsible for the cheap tablets. The Indian government quickly took to the possibilities of providing cheap computing devices to many students across the country and agreed to subsidize the tablet from its full price of $45 to $35. The original Aakash device came with Android 2.2, a 7-inch touchscreen and a arm-based 366MHz processor.

Datawind CEO, Suneet Singh Tuli told IDG News that product deliveries for the next-generation Aakash tablet will commence in a couple of weeks. The Aakash 2 will be shipped with Gingerbread; however, in about 6 to 8 weeks the tablet will be Android 4.0 upgradeable. Hardware-wise, the new Aakash will be featuring single-core, 800Mhz Arm Cortex-A8 processor as well as a 7-inch capacitive multitouch screen. Tuli also said that the tablet will most likely be getting a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor by year’s end.

“We’re confident that by the fall, Cortex A9 dual-core processors will be in the same [price] range as what Cortex A8 is at today,” said Tuli.

Datawind, working together with the Indian Institute of Technology in Rajasthan, was on track to provide 8-10 million units to the Indian government last month by March 31. However, there has been a hiccup in that expected number, and at the beginning of the Indian governments fiscal quarter of April 1, the budget is for 5 million units.

Much of the delay seems to be centered around disagreements with the Rajasthan Institute of Technology and the UK-based Datawind; disagreements which stem from testing criteria. In the future, Datawind will be working with the Institute of Technology-Bombay. IIT-Bombay gets first crack at the Aakash 2, set to purchase 100K units

Popular Playstation 3 game, Joe Danger, making its way to Android later this year

More and more console games are starting to make their way to mobile for both iOS and Android. Another title has been announced that will be making the jump from the Playstation 3 over to iOS and Android is Joe Danger from Hello Games. In Joe Danger you will be controlling your hero, along with his motorcycle, as he does crazy stunts and balancing acts across a variety of crazy tracks with said motorcycle. Hello Games also mentioned that this mobile version of Joe Danger will be fairly different than the Playstation 3 version with completely reworked controls for mobile devices that will take advantage of the touchscreens they come with.

One other bit of information regarding Joe Danger and Hello Games is that they are treating this release like any other console game release for them. This means everything will, hopefully, be polished and graphically great just like its PS3 counter-part. As of right now, joe Danger is slated for release sometime later this year. No word on pricing right now either.

Max Payne Mobile coming to iOS and Android this month

If Grand Theft Auto 3 wasn’t enough for your ten-year-old console game needs, Max Payne is headed to mobile devices this month courtesy of Rockstar Games. Originally created by the great Remedy Entertainment in 2001, the run-and-gun platformer introduced the world to bullet time (though, due to The Matrix, it was never officially called that) and a snarly, arrogant meathead named Max. Rockstar Toronto eventually brought the game to the PS2 later that year, with its neo-noir graphic novel stylings intact, and now the game is arriving on iOS and Android with updated graphics and touch-based controls. It will also have “Social Connect” and customizable controls. Support devices include iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 4, iPad 1, iPad 2 and the new iPad, with a list of supported Android devices in the coming weeks. The iOS port will be released on April 12th, while the Android version is coming on April 26th. Let the games begin! Source: Rockstar Games

Football Manager Handheld 2012 allows players to take control of clubs from leagues across 12 countries, assuming control of transfers, training, tactics and match-day. The countries featured in Football Manager Handheld 2012 are Australia, Belgium, Brazil, England, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Portugal, Scotland, Spain and Wales. The handheld version of Football Manager also includes an exclusive Challenge Mode that places you and your club in a scenario and asks you to complete specific goals. Football Manager Handheld 2012 will be available to download on Wednesday 11 April from the Google Play store priced at £6.99.

The game is only compatible with Android phones running OS 2.2 or higher. In our four-star review of the iOS version of Football Manager Handheld 2012 we said that it was "an absorbing and challenging game that will make the longest train journey pass in a flash" and well worth the asking price. Game responsibly: Captain's Conquest plunders iPhone, Android

Admit it: You've drunkenly stumbled into a late night arcade to play video games before--responsibly, of course. Now, Captain Morgan wants you to drink in the safety of your own home and play his game. That's right, the scraggly-looking guy on the popular spiced rum bottles has his own free-to-play iPhone and Android game, Captain's Conquest.

It's common for properties like movies and comic books to get there own video games, but we'd say liquor is somewhat new to the branded games world. Created by award-winning UK-based digital creative production company Unit 9, Captain's Conquest has players command their own pirate ship that has an interesting (if unrealistic) relationship with social media.

The size of a player's given vessel depends on their influence on social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare. This directly affects players' naval battle prowess, and ultimately, their rank among other players. It's a location-based game, meaning Captain's Conquest players can see other players' ships in their direct vicinity via GPS and send some canon balls into their hulls, if they're so inclined.

Of course, the game features prominent Captain's Morgan branding throughout, as one would expect from a branded game. But Unit 9 takes it one step further with the ability for players to scan physical Captain Morgans bottles for rewards. Hey, we already know that decent branded mobile games are possible, so we say it's worth the free download to see if it lives up to captain's orders.

Trio of Disney-based games heading to Android, starting with Disney Party

Social gaming mega-company DeNA continues its dominance of Japan's mobile gaming scene this month, as it revealed today that it is working alongside Disney to co-develop a number of games for Android devices based on Disney characters and films.

The duo has already released Disney Party - a free-to-play party simulation where players can organise get-togethers for Disney characters and share their shindigs with other Mobage players - in Japan via Mobage this week.

Next week, the duo will release Disney Fantasy Quest in Japan, an online card collecting game in which players, well, collect cards. That's also a free-to-play title.

Finally, coming this summer, DeNA and Disney will release a Marvel Comics-themed game. That one will be a card battler, with players laying into each other with all sorts of Marvel characters splashed on virtual cards. Again, a free-to-play game.

Crossing borders

That's all headed to Japan, but fear not! All three games are also due to be released later this year worldwide, including in our humble UK.

Isao Moriyasu, president at DeNA, said of this new agreement: "Disney's characters and stories have cross-border and cross-generational appeal. DeNA has enormous reach around the world with its proven cross-device platform for mobile social games."

"Together, we can delight millions of players with games featuring Disney's and Marvel's beloved characters.

Gangstar Rio: City Of Saints, Scratch Your Sandbox Violence Itch

No, it's not a gangster game starring the birds from that one CGI movie. Gangster Rio: City Of Saints is Gameloft's latest addition to its collection of "games that are sort of similar to bigger game franchises you know, but aren't terrible ripoffs either." Gangstar's latest sandbox takes place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and offers the player all manner of weaponry and missions to satisfy their id.

For a mobile game, Gangstar Rio looks very fully-featured. From Gameloft, and after over four months of being teased, we'd expect nothing less. The game includes over 60 missions, a variety of weapons, vehicles, and something called "the Explosive Football." Side note, Gameloft: "Explosive Football" needs to be its own game. Make this happen.

While we're waiting for NFL Pro Nuclear Edition, though, Gangstar Rio should satisfy your bloodlust for now. The game clocks in at $7, which isn't too bad for a well-rounded game like this. Grab it from the widget below.

Temple Run Android gets a whopping 1 million downloads in three days

For months, you waited on developer Imangi Studios to bring its iOS hit Temple Run to Android. For weeks you filled our comments section with hundreds of replies (you kiss your mothers with those mouths?). And when Temple Run finally sprinted onto the Google Play store, you didn’t disappoint. In just three days the Android version of the game racked up a million downloads. And if the graph for new players on the Google Play Store is accurate, it isn’t slowing down any time soon.

For comparison, the iOS version has been downloaded 45 million times in the last seven months. With Android’s larger userbase and a ravenous gaming population, it should be able to match that figure fairly easily. The fact that the game is free on both platforms doesn’t hurt – just ask Rovio. Their free version of Angry Birds has somewhere between 50 and 100 million downloads, and the new Angry Birds Space has over 10 million installs on Android alone.
Most have given Temple Run positive reviews in the Google Play Store, but it’s not all sunshine and roses. Owners of older phones are experiencing some serious slowdown, and the game’s stability leaves a lot to be desired. Considering how long the Android version took to arrive, that seems a little disappointing. Since the game’s launch on Tuesday it has not been updated. For those who can’t see it in the Google Play store or need the 3D graphics to be toned down a bit, check out some modded versions of the game for older phones.

Game Insight Announces Rule The Kingdom for Android

Game Insight, a global leader in publishing mobile and social games, announces its newest game Rule The Kingdom for Android devices. To mark this momentous occasion, Game Insight has released an announcement trailer to give players a glimpse at the city-building and role-playing action to come!

Rule The Kingdom is an immersive role-playing game that combines the strategy and achievement of a traditional city-building game with the questing, crafting, and battles of today's top role-playing games. Players take the mantle of a deposed lord or lady to defend and rebuild their humble domain. Android users will be tasked with building a bustling village for their loyal subjects, who create a burgeoning economy by harvesting crops and other raw materials, and by using multiple recipes, can create foodstuffs, weapons, armor, and other useful items to help bolster their community.

Building a city is only the beginning of Rule The Kingdom's story. Players will also have an in-game avatar who can explore a vast land filled with treasures, monsters, and other nations that seek alliances. Players will use their character to recruit one of six different troop types to accompany them as they tackle more than 1,000 quests across 12 campaigns that will require them to explore, fight powerful bosses, learn three different schools of devastating magical spells, and collect precious gems to upgrade slots in their weapons and armor.

Rule The Kingdom will offer hours of varied gameplay that combines city-building and resource management with true role-playing game-style questing and battles. This unique RPG experience will be free-to-play and will be available on Android devices in April 2012.

Men In Black III game coming to Android from Sony and Gameloft

Recently mobile games have really been taking off, but to partner with a game developer and release it on the same day as a major movie just seems like a good idea. The popular and highly anticipated Men in Black III is coming to theaters on May 25th. Along with the release will be a game designed and released by Gameloft for Android.

Gameloft and Sony haven’t released too many details, but as launch date edges closer we’ll be hearing more. For now we know the MIB III game will be released on smartphones and tablets, and be available the same day as the movie hits the streets. Not two months later. I wish everyone did the same thing, and released things at the same time but sadly that just doesn’t happen. Take Mass Effect 3 for example. They released a lousy live wallpaper for Android along with the game, and that was all.

The Men In Black game for Android will be a freemium title. Meaning it will be free to download and play but users can also make in-game purchases to go farther, unlock levels, or buy guns and such. The actual type of gameplay hasn’t yet been revealed but most likely will be some sort of side or top down shooter with aliens, but we have nothing to confirm that speculation.
With a movie this big, and the game launching on consoles, iOS, and Android we have a feeling it will be better than just some tossed together game — or we hope so at least. Gameloft and Sony will be giving players the “keys” to the Men in Black universe starting on May 25th, same day the movie launches. Are you excited about this movie, or the game for that matter?

Angry Birds Space released for iOS, Android, PC and Mac

Angry Birds fans craving a fresh fix of Rovio's game franchise can breathe a sigh of relief: the latest instalment, Angry Birds Space, has now been launched on several devices.

The new game is available for iPhone and in a separate HD version for iPad, costing S$0.99 and S$2.99 respectively.

An Android version is also now live as a free download and in-game advertisements, while Rovio is selling a PC version from its own online shop, and a Mac version in Apple's Mac Store. Ad-free versions of the Android game will follow.

While the core formula of catapulting birds at pigs remains intact, Angry Birds Space adds new gameplay elements including gravitational fields, and new birds with their own destructive capabilities.

There is also a new power-up - Space Eagles - which can be earned by playing or bought as an in-app purchase. 60 levels are included in the initial game, but more will be added as free updates and in-app purchases.

"This launch marks a huge step for us as a company, and our whole team and partners have really pulled together to bring out a fantastic array of exciting products and experiences," says chief executive Mikael Hed in a statement. "We hope that our fans will find all things Angry Birds Space as delightful as the Rovio family does."

Rovio has previously promised an official companion book published by National Geographic as well as animation and retail elements for the Angry Birds Space launch.

Device-maker Samsung is also a key partner for the Angry Birds Space launch, with an exclusive level for owners of its Galaxy Note device who get the new game.

Rovio will be hoping the new game continues the startling growth for Angry Birds, which had passed 700 million downloads on all platforms last time the company released public figures.

With the three previous games in the series still riding high in app stores, the franchise is likely now closer to one billion - a milestone that Angry Birds Space may well help it surpass sooner rather than later.

"It's the first time we have everything available on launch day: animation, toys, books, candy, everything. It's massive: most Hollywood movies don't have this. And this is just the first phase of our space programme. There is more to come," Rovio's Peter Vesterbacka told The Guardian in February this year, while preparing for the launch. THE GUARDIAN

Kainy remote desktop app brings PC games to Android (video)

Watching Skyrim run smooth and sweet on a Tegra 3 slate did a lot to re-kindle our excitement for remote gaming on mobile devices. Hoping to cash in on that buzz, a $5 app called "Kainy" has appeared on Google Play that promises to bring PC games to Android handsets at up to 60fps with customizable control interfaces, 100 preset templates and accelerometer control.

The demo video after the break is full of fast cuts that make it hard to judge performance, and user reviews suggest Kainy may prioritize lag-reduction over resolution with some ugly results, but then these are still early days. One thing is for sure: picking an Android device for its processor grunt will make a lot of sense in 2012. Via Endgaget

Final Fantasy III realeased for Japanese Android devices

It’s been available on iOS for quite some time, and now Square Enix has decided to spread its wings and release Final Fantasy III for the Android ecosystem.
The only (and major) issue is that it’s not available for everyone just yet. In fact the Final Fantasy classic can only be played by Japanese Android device owners. You may have played the old school Nintendo version, like me. This game will not resemble the classic game very much. It has been enhanced with better graphics and 3D effects.

It will look very different from what you remember. But it is fun, and the faces are more recognizable. It seems we’ll have to continue using emulators to play this game. At least for a while. But it sure would be nice to have a native version available. And as of now, we have no idea when (or if) this game will be hitting other countries. But we sure hope Square Enix can give us the treat. If you’re a Squaresoft fan, you may also like to know that Final Fantasy (1) and Chrono Trigger classics are also available. Once again, only for the Japanese market. We’ll just have to wait our turn. Check out the iOS trailer and let us know what you think. How many of you want to see these games coming to the US (or any other country)? I’m still waiting for a native Android version of Final Fantasy VII!

“Customers have used the Amazon Appstore to test drive and buy millions of apps and games for their Kindle Fire and other Android devices in the first year alone,” said Aaron Rubenson, director of Amazon Appstore for Android. “To thank customers for shopping with us, we worked closely with our developers to offer special discounts on some of the most popular apps all week long.”

Customers can use Amazon’s Test Drive feature to test out apps before buying. Once they download an app they can use it across multiple devices, including Kindle Fire, giving developers a new platform for reaching customers. “We know how important discovery and monetization are for app developers,” said Rubenson. “Our investment in personalization technology helps customers find the best apps for their needs. And, our 1-Click technology makes it trivially easy to purchase apps with one click.” “It’s been an exciting first year in the Amazon Appstore and we look forward to many more,” said Andrew Stein, director of Global Mobile Business and Products at PopCap Games, Inc.

“All of our games, including the megahit Plants vs. Zombies, have done extremely well in the Amazon Appstore, for both Kindle Fire and other Android devices; it’s a testament to the great Amazon Appstore shopping experience resulting from its user-friendly design and comprehensive catalog.” “We expected that the Amazon Appstore would be a success and it’s been evidenced in the growth of the revenues since the launch,” said Adam Flanders, senior vice president of Sales & Marketing at Glu Mobile, Inc. “We have seen revenues from Amazon grow by over 1,000 percent in the four months since the Kindle Fire launched alone, and Blood and Glory recently reached the #2 spot in Top Selling Games.

Glu is thrilled with the momentum behind Kindle Fire and the Amazon Appstore’s strong platform, global customer base, and exceptional merchandising capabilities.” “We were grateful that we were able to bring Dr. Seuss, The Berenstain Bears and Mercer Mayer’s Little Critter apps to the Amazon Appstore from the very beginning,” said Michel Kripalani, president of Oceanhouse Media. “Amazon provides visibility to a huge customer base. We’ve seen increased engagement with the apps over the last year, especially since the launch of Kindle Fire.”

“As Pandora continues our mission to provide people with personalized music they love, being a featured app on Kindle Fire has given us an exciting new platform to connect with our listeners, both existing and new, and we’ve been impressed with the high engagement rate we’ve seen on Kindle Fire,” said Simon Fleming-Wood, chief marketing officer of Pandora Media. “At Quickoffice, we’ve experienced a massive lift in our Android app sales since the launch of Kindle Fire. The Amazon Appstore has been a great showcase for our app, and we’ve seen significant gains in conversion rates compared to other app stores based on the integrated Amazon buying experience,” said Alan Masarek, CEO of Quickoffice, Inc.

In its first year, the most downloaded paid app in the Amazon Appstore was Cut the Rope, followed by Angry Birds (Ad-Free) and Where’s My Water?; the most downloaded free app was Angry Birds Free, followed by Netflix and Solitaire by MobilityWare. Amazon Appstore offers a paid app for free every day. If a customer had downloaded every Free App of the Day since launch, they would have saved nearly $1,000.

The paid app with the most 5-star reviews in the first year of the Amazon Appstore was Where’s My Water?, with over 3,000; the free app with the most 5-star reviews was Blood & Glory, with over 4,000. Temple Run officially hits Android March 27, will be free

The team at Imangi Studios has finally announced an official release date of the hugely popular game Temple Run for Android. We’ve mentioned it more than a few times before, and with huge responses and anger when it wasn’t released in February like promised. Sadly we’ll have to wait a few more weeks but it’ll be here soon enough.

For some unknown reason this game has achieved a huge level of success being the top free and grossing app for iOS in January and passing over 40 million downloads. The wait for this game to hit Android has been a long one but I can happy say that Android will be running from Monkeys and enjoying Temple Run come March 27th and it will be completely free.
Here is what Co-founder Keith Sheperd had to say:

"We are excited to finally share the Android release date with our fans who have been so enthusiastic and supportive of Temple Run. By expanding to more mobile devices, we hope to provide the same addictive and fast-paced gameplay to an entirely new group of players."

No more rumors or suggestions of a February 9th launch or whatever the rumor was that had everyone up in arms. This comes from Imangi Studios themselves and remember, if you see Temple Run in the Android Market before March 27th most likely it’s a fake as we’ve seen a few of those the past couple of weeks.

Sega Unveils Mobile Total War Series

Total War Battles is the name the mobile incarnation of the beloved real time strategy franchise will be released under.  The  new game will be handled by a new Creative Assembly team, Total War Digital.”This isn’t the traditional Total War you might expect,” according to lead designer Renaud Charpentier.

“We are working on a title that is specifically tailored to the play styles and control methods of mobile platforms. We want to deliver a game that plays to the strengths of handheld RTS mechanics, and perfectly adapts to a host of different platforms,” he added. The team has been hard at work prototyping the thing for the past year, using the Unity engine. No firm platform announcement has been made yet, but the only uncertainty at this point is whether the Vita and 3DS will be joining iOS and Android devices.

HandyGames giving Townsmen a re-vamping, coming soon to Android

More Mobile World Congress 2012 Android gaming news coming your way today and this time it is about HandyGames' running Townsmen series. This series is a city building and time management mash-up that has done fairly well in the past but HandyGames plans on making it do better by re-vamping the entire thing.

The new game, simply called Townsmen, will be a bit more friendly with the user experience but HandyGames is also making sure that the deep gameplay remains intact. It will also come with re-vamp graphics which will apparently make the game look a hell of a lot better. Don't mistaken the new visuals and friendly user experience as the game being easier though.

Townsmen will feature a bit more deeper gameplay with production chains and building management with the overall goal of establishing a flourishing town. You will have to harvest resources like food as well as manufacture finished goods. Unlike its previous predecessors though, there won't be an evil monarch or some big bad guy you have to contend with in this new smartphone optimized version of the game.

While this will be released on Android for free with optional in-game payments available for those of you who want to use them, fast-forwarding of building times isn't actually set on buying into the game. It is always available for you to use by spending the cash you earn in-game instead which is a rather nice feature to have. This means producing cash in-game is now much more important if you want to build faster.

No word just yet on when this will land on Android, only that it will be coming in Q2 2012.

[New Game] Meltdown On Mars Sets Up A Colony On The Android Market, Pits You Against Invading Alien Hordes, Ripley-Style

Thumbstar Games, whose previous work appears to be an Android version of that game they played in Hackers, has launched its new shooter/tower defense game for Android, Meltdown on Mars. The game is reminiscent of Gun Bros., with some tower defense elements adding an extra layer of strategy to the game.

The game utilizes a dual-virtual-joystick system to move and shoot. You can also create and upgrade towers to help you defeat the incoming invasion. The game is a nice blend of action and strategy. Straight tower defense games are fun, but can get a little tedious once you've settled into a strategy and wait for the automated enemies to come flooding in. Meltdown on Mars adds some more excitement to the game by putting you in the middle of the firefight.

Perhaps one of the best features of this game is its price tag: $3.99. The end. No in-game purchases, no horrible tokens. It's a little sad that this is becoming more of an exception than the norm, but given that this game relies on upgrades and accumulating features, it would've been easy to let users pay for upgraded weapons. Good on Thumbstar for taking the less-shady route.

The game is currently only available on tablets packing Tegra processors. The company says that Tegra phones will be supported in the future. In the mean time, if you've got a tablet with an NVIDIA-borne chip inside, you can head over to either the Market via the widget below or to the Tegra Zone app to get started defending your last patch of the red planet.

Sony to bring original content to Playstation Suite, not just ports

If there is something Sony is strong at, it is their gaming platforms. This is something that didn’t take off immediately on the Android platform, after the release PlayStation Suite. The selection of games is limited, and they are all Playstation 1 ports. But according to Sony Mobile’s chief marketing officer Steve Walker, this is all about to change.

Sony is making some huge changes as we speak, now that it is in full charge of its mobile division. Great devices like the Sony Xperia U and Sony Xperia P have been announced at MWC. But we know Sony is not stopping there, and one of the things they will improve is the selection of games within the Playstation Suite platform.

Walker mentions that “Sony Computer Entertainment has a vision for PlayStation Suite and they will be leveraging their powerful developer relationships to bring original content through the PlayStation Suite initiative.” Said games will include “content which has been newly created for the PlayStation Suite and PlayStation Store.”

We have been dreaming of devices with powerful gaming experience. Smartphones like the Xperia Play are great gaming devices, but they are not specialized for such use. It is basically an improved Android gaming experience, as opposed to being a gaming platform, like the PSP or PS Vita.

This is a great step towards creating a much more immersive gaming experience. And it is sure to lure the hard core gamer within us. As for me, I am still dreaming of an Xperia device with PS Vita games and performance. Maybe that day is not very far off.
